Another Dream India Camp Raises Pulse of Next-Gen India

Highlights of the Camp:

બાળકોએ અનુભવ્યું કે –

“આત્મવિશ્વાસથી ભરપૂર યુવાનો, ઉત્તમ માનવી અને શ્રેષ્ઠ નાગરિક તૈયાર કરવાનો માહોલ
એટલે ઓએસિસ વેલીઝ પર ડ્રીમ ઇન્ડિયા કૅમ્પ”

Dream India Camp was organised at Oasis Valleys during 28th April to 6th May with open registration. Children from Gujarat, Palakkad (Kerala) and Bangalore (Karnataka) attended the camp without any language barrier. More than 20 teachers shared their knowledge with 103 children. Hiral Patel, Rushin Naik, Dr. Atul Unagar & Binit Shah from Oasis facilitated the camp who were guided by Pallavi Raulji. Anjali Parmar, Bhumika Kumavat, Jayesh Chauthani, Lay Naik, Mantraraj Naik & Nirali Dhum from Oasis Youth Cadre were the main volunteers from Oasis youth cadre.

Crux of what participants reflected after the camp:

“આ ડ્રીમ ઇન્ડિયા કૅમ્પમાંથી હું ઘણું બધું શીખી. સૌથી મોટું અને ખૂબ જ મહત્ત્વનું એ શીખી કે મારી લાઇફને કેવી રીતે આગળ ધપાવવી. મને હિંમત અને પ્રોત્સાહન અપાયું. લાઇફનું મહત્ત્વ સમજાવ્યું અને નેતૃત્વ માટે અમને તૈયાર કર્યા. દેશ માટે અમે કંઈક કરી શકીએ એ માટે અમને લાયક ગણ્યા. આ બધું શીખવાની મને ખૂબ મજા આવી. આ કૅમ્પે મને મારું સ્વપ્ન બતાવ્યું છે. મને મારી જિંદગી મારા માટે શું મહત્ત્વ રાખે છે, બીજા માટે શું મહત્ત્વ રાખે છે તે સમજાવ્યું છે. Oasis is the best.”

“This camp has given me a lot. It has taught me about Love, Life, Leadership & Friendship. I made lots of mistakes here but this camp has taught me about how to be free & independent and it has taught me that we are also having responsibilities along with freedom. When I have finished the camp, I am feeling lot of changes in my qualities and myself. This camp was really very excellent.”

“જે સ્વતંત્રતા આપી, ઘરથી દૂર રહીને નવી નવી વસ્તુ શિખવાડી અને અમારામાં આત્મવિશ્વાસ જગાડ્યો એ ખૂબ ગમ્યું. આ સ્થળ, અહીંની હરિયાળી, શિક્ષકોનો સ્વભાવ.. બધું ખૂબ જ ગમ્યું...” “અહીંનું વાતાવરણ ખુશાલી અને સમાનતાથી ભરેલું છે... અહીં આઠ દિવસમાં મને આઠ જન્મો જેટલી ખુશી મળી, જેથી આ કૅમ્પને હું સ્વર્ગ સમાન માનું છું.”

“ઓએસિસનો એક જ હેતુ છે કે આપણે દરેક વધુ સારા નાગરિક બનીએ.” “આ કૅમ્પ પૂરી દુનિયામાં પ્રખ્યાત થાય તેવી લાગણી વ્યક્ત કરું છું. કેમ કે આ કૅમ્પમાં મુખ્ય વસ્તુ સ્વતંત્રતા છે.”

Crux of reflections by participants on Children's Parliament:

“મને બાળકોની અદાલત એટલા માટે ખૂબ ગમી કે એમાં ઘણા બધા કેસ આવતા હતા. પરંતુ એ ખૂબ જ સરસ રીતે સૉલ્વ થઈ જતા હતા. જેમને પણ સજા કરવામાં આવતી એ એવી હતી કે એનાથી સજા પામનારને દુઃખ ન થાય અને એમની ભૂલ માટે પશ્ચાતાપ પણ થઈ જાય.”

Star Assembly: Time to recognise and affirm whatever good is seen in children everyday

Daily Sessions: Learning becomes joyful experience with complete freedom

‘Enjoy-Learn-Create-Together’ - આ ચારેય શબ્દો આપણી જિંદગી બદલી શકે છે
અને આપણને મહાન બનાવી શકે છે

All the learning with lots of fun - children enjoyed each and every session, as seen in above collage. Some of them reflected -

“અમને ડસ્ટબિન પર કલર કરવાની ખૂબ મજા આવી. તે ડસ્ટબિન ક્યાં ક્યાં મૂકવા અને તેમાં કયો કયો કચરો નાખવો તે અમે જોયું અને વિચાર્યું.”

“વેસ્ટમાંથી બેસ્ટ સેશનમાં મને જાણવા મળ્યું કે ખરાબ થયેલી વસ્તુઓમાંથી કેટલી સારી વસ્તુઓ બનાવી શકાય છે. મને ખૂબ મજા આવી.”

“લીડરશિપ સેશનમાં લીડર થવાનું ખૂબ ગમ્યું. મારામાં ખૂબ જ હિંમત આવી છે.”

“સૌથી વધુ ગ્રીટિંગ-કાર્ડનો સેશન ગમ્યો. દીદી બહુ જ પ્રેમાળ હતા. અમે તેમની સાથે ખૂબ જ મજા કરી. તેમણે અમને ઘણું બધું નવું નવું શીખવ્યું.”

“મારો પ્રિય સેશન Pot Decoration હતો. પહેલી વાર કર્યું ત્યારે ખૂબ અઘરું લાગ્યું. પરંતુ બીજા દિવસથી એ સેશન એટલો પ્રિય થઈ ગયો કે અમે રોજ મસ્તી કરતાં કરતાં, વાતો કરતાં કરતાં Pot Decoration પતાવી દેતા.”

Guest Sessions: Specially invited Guests shared their knowledge with children

Teachers from Navsari, Surat and Vadodara spent a special day with camp participants and taught them something new which children do not get in their routine schooling.

Duties: With Freedom comes Responsibilities and children learn it well

“We learned to live together…
We also learned to manage things alone, without Mom & Dad”

Collage shows children doing various duties to keep their 'Mini country - Oasis Valleys' clean, neat & tidy. The best reflection we got was -

“I had never cleaned toilet in my life. I learnt it and I learnt waste management in this camp and I liked it the most. I also learnt to wash plates, which was my punishment. I am very happy about learning all such qualities. Dream India Camp will help youngsters for leading India in future.”

Special Sessions: Surprises to give children thrill, joy and lots of learning

Apart from daily sessions, assemblies, and guest sessions, some special sessions and surprises were there for the children in this camp. The most thrilling and memorable session was of Night Ghost-trekking. Let's see what they reflected for those sessions -

“આખા કૅમ્પમાં મને અહીંના વૃક્ષો, ઠંડો પવન, ચોખ્ખી હવા ખૂબ ગમ્યાં.”

“હું શીખી કે ભૂત હોતા નથી. લોકો કહે છે કે ભૂત હોય છે એવું કંઈ હોતું નથી. ઘોસ્ટ ટ્રેકિંગમાં ખૂબ મજા આવી.” “I liked the most was taking out fear of Ghosts through Ghost Trekking.”

“I have learnt lots of things from this Dream India Camp like – Leadership Qualities, Learn in Group, Work together & Share our ideas with each other, Debate & such sessions.”

Performances: They learn very fast & perform freely

The last evening – time to perform and celebrate…

Children celebrated the last evening with their performances, the art they learned in the camp - Dances, Drama, Mime, skits... Children also presented their project work which they completed in the camp.

Teachers: They become friends of children and learning is always mutual

The common experience of the teachers in Oasis Dream India Camps is that they learn more from children than they teach them. And the love they get from children is much much more than what they shower. The teachers who shared their time with children, other than facilitators, were Krutika Gandhi & Bunty Patel- Dance, Shivani Chahwala & Charmi Desai- Drama & Mime, Praksha Desai- Pot Decoration, Viral Panchal- Best out of waste, Nirali Dhum- Greeting cards & Photo frames, Mikit Patel- Artefacts, Falguni Desai- Books my best friend and Deepti Patel- Cooking.

What children have to say about few of their teachers -

“My most favorite session was Drama & Mime. We had a lot of fun with our teachers, who became our friends - Shivanididi, Charmididi and the most favorite Piyush Sir. It was the most remarkable session for me.”

“અમને ડાન્સ કરવાની ખૂબ મજા આવી. કૃતિકાબેન અને બંટીભાઈએ અમને એવો અહેસાસ પણ નથી કરાવ્યો કે અમે એકલા છીએ. તેઓ હંમેશાં અમારી સાથે મિત્રની જેમ રહ્યાં.”

Facilitators & Volunteers: Responsible for Creating atmosphere most conducive for highest learning

“મૅનેજમેન્ટના સભ્યો ખૂબ જ પ્રેમાળ હતા;
તેમણે અમને જેટલો પ્રેમ આપ્યો છે તેટલો પ્રેમ મને મારા ઘરે પણ નથી મળ્યો”

On the day of departure, children showered their love for facilitators & management team.

What children have to say about them -

“આ કૅમ્પમાં મૅનેજમેન્ટના સભ્યો ખૂબ જ પ્રેમાળ હતા. અમને ખૂબ જ સારી રીતે બધું શિખવાડ્યું. પલ્લવીબેન, લય અને અર્થનો સ્વભાવ ખૂબ જ ગમ્યો. તેઓ બધા સાથે મિત્રોની જેમ ભળી ગયા હતા... તેમણે અમને જેટલો પ્રેમ આપ્યો છે તેટલો પ્રેમ મને મારા ઘરે પણ નથી મળ્યો.”

“હિરલદીદી ખૂબ ગમ્યાં. તેઓ ખૂબ પ્રેમાળ, દયાળુ અને સાથે સાથે થોડા મસ્તીખોર પણ છે. કદી ગુસ્સે થતા નથી. મારો પ્રૉબ્લેમ ચૂટકીમાં સૉલ્વ કરી દીધો.”

“બધા દીદી અને ભાઈ બહુ ગમ્યાં... બધી જ વ્યવસ્થા બહુ ગમી... આખી ઓએસિસ વેલીઝ બહુ ગમી...”

Reflections from volunteers and facilitators:

આ કૅમ્પમાં સૌથી વધારે મને ગ્રૂપમાં ટીમવર્ક કરવાનું હોય છે તે ગમ્યું. ઘણા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ સાથે મિત્રતા બંધાઈ. બાળકોની અદાલત ગમી. તેનાથી બાળકોને પોતાનો આત્મવિશ્વાસ જાળવી રાખવાનું સમજાયું. પછી તેમને જીવનમાં જો કોઈ અડચણ આવે તો તેઓ કમજોર નહીં પડે. ~ જયેશ ચૌથાની, સ્વયંસેવક

As volunteer I came to know the importance of micro planning to make camp successful. Students are given chance to examine us. It is unique. Students make their rules and follow them – It is one thing that most of the people can’t believe. Parliament was highlight of the camp. બધાં બાળકો સાથે તાલમેલ રાખીને રહેવું એ સહેલી બાબત નથી, પણ હું એ સંપૂર્ણપણે શીખી. બાળકોને આ અદાલત ખૂબ ગમી, કારણ કે બાળકના મનમાં જ્યારે તે સ્વતંત્ર નથી હોતો ત્યારે ઘણા બધા પ્રશ્નો, ઘણી બધી ફરિયાદો એકબીજા પ્રત્યે હોય છે. આ અદાલત દ્વારા તેઓ ન્યાય, સત્ય અને આઝાદીનો અનુભવ લે છે. ~ અંજલિ પરમાર, સ્વયંસેવક

આ કૅમ્પની વિશેષતા સ્ટાર અસેમ્બલિ અને બાળકોની અદાલત હતી. સ્ટાર અસેમ્બલિ દ્વારા બાળકોને પ્રોત્સાહન મળે છે તેમ જ નવા નવા કામ કરવાની ધગસ પૂરી પડે છે અને અદાલત દ્વારા બાળકો સ્વયં-નિર્ણય લેતાં બને છે અને સાચા-ખોટાની પરખ મેળવતાં શીખે છે. ~ લય નાયક, સ્વયંસેવક
