Session discussion on Societal Concern in 'माँ खाऐ मार क्यूँ?' (Domestic Violence)

This winter, Oasis organized Dream India Camp that introduced new subjects based on burning issues of India. Themes of subjects were Corruption, Domestic Violence, Women Empowerment, Village Development, Consumerism, Superstitions, Discrimination, Education System, Pollution and Freedom of Choice. Children came together to discuss the nature and roots of these problems and their solutions. At the end of the camp, they conducted signature campaigns, surveys and street plays. The camp was organized from December 12 to 20, 2016 for 120 children from all over Gujarat.

 Dr. Pravin Shah (Vascular Surgeon, New York, U.S.A.), as a part of his annual commitment of 12-15 days, underwent his first stint as trainee facilitator last December and took on as Co-Facilitator this year.

"સમગ્ર કૅમ્પમાંથી અમારો પ્રિય સેશન 'ડિયર જિંદગી' છે. આ સેશનમાં અમને જાણવા મળ્યું કે જિંદગી એટલે શું અને જિંદગીમાં આપણે શું સારું કરવું જોઈએ અને અમને સવારના સેશન 'શું આપણે બધા લલ્લુ છીએ?' - આ સેશનમાં મને એવું જાણવા મળ્યું કે આપણે બધા કઈ-કઈ વસ્તુથી લલ્લુ બની જઈએ છીએ. આપણે કોઈ પણ વસ્તુ લેતી વખતે પાછળની વિગતો વાંચવી જોઈએ અને આપણને જે જરૂરી છે તે વસ્તુ જ વાપરવી જોઈએ." – ગાયત્રી પરમાર
"સમગ્ર કૅમ્પમાંથી મારા પ્રિય સેશન બે હતા ‘माँ खाऐ मार क्यूँ?' અને ‘ધ્યેય પ્રાપ્તિ સુધી મંડ્યા રહો’ – આ સેશનમાં મને ઘણું બધું જાણવા મળ્યું કે કેવી રીતે અત્યાચાર અટકાવવા જોઈએ. સફળતાની ચાવી અને સપનું જોવાની ખૂબ મજા આવી. તેમાં પોતાની શક્તિ અને નબળાઈ શેર કરવાની હતી. આ બે મારા સૌથી પ્રિય સેશન હતા." – સારિકા રાવત
"આ ડ્રીમ ઇન્ડિયા કૅમ્પમાં અમે એ શીખ્યા કે 'પ્રેમ શું છે?'. તેમાં અમને એ શીખવ્યું કે અમે જેને પ્રેમ સમજતા હતાં તે જ પ્રેમ નથી. પ્રેમ એને કહેવાય કે જેમાં પ્રેમ કરવાથી બંનેનો વિકાસ થાય - તેને સાચો પ્રેમ કહેવાય. એમાં મને મઝા આવી અને 'હું વિદ્યાર્થી છું કે કેદી?' તેમાં પણ સ્વતંત્રતા હોવી જોઈએ, આજના એજ્યુકેશન વિશે ખૂબ જાણવા મળ્યું ને હું ખૂબ ખુશ છું." – શિલા મરળ
"સમગ્ર કૅમ્પમાંથી મારો સૌથી મનગમતો અને પ્રિય સેશન 'શું ભારત ભ્રષ્ટાચાર સામે લાચાર છે?' તેમાં મને બહુ ગમ્યું અને તેમાંથી તો એટલું બધું જ્ઞાન મેળવ્યું છે કે હું મારી જિંદગીમાં તો ભૂલ કરીશ જ નહીં અને ભ્રષ્ટાચાર પણ નહીં પણ મારી સાથે બીજા બધાને પણ કહીશ અને તે મારો સૌથી અગત્યનો અને સૌથી પ્રિય સેશન હતો." – પલક પટેલ
"મને ઓએસિસ ડ્રીમ ઇન્ડિયા કૅમ્પમાં બાળકોની અદાલતની વ્યવસ્થા ગમી, કારણ કે અદાલતમાં બધા જ બાળકો હતાં છતાં ઘણી સમજદારીપૂર્વક બધાને ન્યાય આપ્યો તથા આરોપીની સજા નક્કી કરી. એટલું જ નહીં, અદાલતમાં બેઠેલા જ્યૂરી મિત્રોએ અમારી અને ફૅકલ્ટી વચ્ચે જરા પણ ભેદભાવ રાખ્યા વગર બંનેને સમાન ગણી બંનેની દલીલો સાંભળી, બંનેને ન્યાય આપ્યા. અદાલતમાં બેઠેલા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ અવાજ કરતા હોય તો તેમને પ્રેમથી સમજાવી શાંત કરાવ્યા અને તેઓને પોતાની જ્યૂરીના પદનું અભિમાન પણ ન હતું." – હર્ષિત કરેના
"આ ડ્રીમ ઇન્ડિયા કૅમ્પમાંથી અમને એકબીજાની મદદ કરવાની ખૂબ મજા આવી. આ કૅમ્પમાં જાતિ-રંગના ભેદભાવ નહીં કરવાનું તેમાં મને ખૂબ મજા આવી. અને સૂકા કચરા અને ભીના કચરાનું ખાતર બનાવવા વિશે અને રાસાયણિક ખાતર અટકાવવા વિશે શીખ્યા. અમને ઘણું બધું શીખવા મળ્યું અને મને તો પહેલી વાર ખબર પડી કે ભીના કચરામાંથી ખાતર બને છે. તે જોવામાં મને ખુશી થઈ અને ચિત્ર દોરવામાં મને આનંદ આવ્યો. આ બધું શીખવાની મને ખૂબ મજા આવી." – નીલેશ વસાવા
"અમને ડ્રીમ ઇન્ડિયા કૅમ્પમાં બાળકોની અદાલત ખૂબ ગમી. અમારી બેઠક વ્યવસ્થા ખૂબ ગમી કારણ કે તેનાથી છોકરા અને છોકરી વચ્ચેનો ભેદ દૂર થાય છે. પછી તેઓ જે કેસ હતા તે શાંતિથી સાંભળતા અને તેનો ખૂબ જ સરસ રીતે ન્યાય પણ આપતા. તેઓ કેસને હેન્ડલ ખૂબ સારી રીતે કરતા હતા. તેમના સ્પીકર સારા હતા. તેઓ બધાને શાંતિથી શાંત કરાવતા હતા." – હિત પટેલ

"આ કૅમ્પમાંથી મને ધ્યેય પ્રાપ્તિ સુધી મંડ્યા રહો તે સેશન ગમ્યો અને એ સેશનમાંથી હું સફળતાની ચાવી શીખ્યો. બધી વ્યક્તિઓનું જીવન કેવું હતું તે જાણવાની ખૂબ મજા આવી." – કેયુર વારીયા
"આ ડ્રીમ ઇન્ડિયા કૅમ્પમાં અમે એ શીખ્યા કે હું જે સેશનમાં હતી 'હું વિદ્યાર્થી છું કે કેદી?' તેમાં મને જાણવા પણ મળ્યું અને શીખવા પણ મળ્યું કે અમારી સ્કૂલમાં કેટલા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ તરીકે રહીએ છીએ અને કેટલા કેદી તરીકે અને બીજો સેશન હતો પ્રેમ શું છે? તેમાં મને જાણવા મળ્યું કે સાચો પ્રેમ શું છે. જે આપણે છોકરા છોકરીઓ વિશે કહીએ છીએ તે ખાલી આકર્ષણ છે. અને પ્રેમ એ લાગણી નથી કર્મ છે. તે પણ શીખવા મળ્યું જેથી હું ખૂબ જ ખુશ છું." – રંગીલા વળવી
"'धर्म, जाति, रंग... ये दीवारे क्यूँ?' એમાં અમે શીખ્યા કે બધા ભેદભાવ કરે છે. અલગ ધર્મના લોકો એકબીજાનાં ઘરનું ખાતા નથી. અલગ જાતિઓમાં એકબીજા સાથે લગ્ન કરવામાં આવતાં નથી. રંગમાં અમને એ શીખવા મળ્યું કે લોકો કાળા હોય તો તેમની સાથે લગ્ન કરશે નહીં. અને જે ગોરા હોય તેની સાથે લગ્ન કરશે એ અમને શીખવા મળ્યું. અમને એમાં ખબર નહોતી કે કાળામાં કેવા ગુણ હોય છે અને ગોરામાં કેવા ગુણ હોય છે. તે અમે શીખ્યા. એનાથી અમે ખૂબ ખુશ છીએ." – પ્રિન્સ રાવલ
"સમગ્ર કૅમ્પમાંથી મારો સૌથી પ્રિય સેશન ડિયર જિંદગી એ હતો. કારણ કે એ પહેલાં તો હું મારી વાતો શેર કરતી નહોતી પણ એક દિવસ બે દિવસ આમ કરતાં કરતાં હું મારી બધી વાતો શેર કરતી હતી અને તેમાં જાત જાતની સ્ટોરી હતી અને એમાંથી પણ ઘણી મજા આવી અને એમાંથી હું મારી ભૂલો કેવી રીતે શોધવી અને બધાની સામે કહેવું એ કેટલું અઘરું હોય છતાં મે મારી ભૂલો શોધી અને બધાની સામે શેરિંગ કર્યું એટલે આ સેશનમાં મને ઘણી મજા આવી." – મીનાક્ષી વળવી
"આ સમગ્ર કૅમ્પમાંથી મારો સૌથી પ્રિય સેશન હતો ‘धर्म, जाति, रंग... ये दीवारे क्यूँ?’ તેમાં અત્યાર સુધી મને નહોતી ખબર કે આપણા દેશમાં કયા કયા અને કેવા ભેદભાવ થાય છે. તે મને શીખવા મળ્યું અને હવે હું કોઈની સાથે ભેદભાવ નહીં થવા દઉં. અને આ સેશન દરમિયાન અમને ગામમાં બધાના ઇન્ટરવ્યૂ લેવા માટે લઈ જવામાં આવ્યા હતા. તેમાં બધાના ઓપિનિયન લેવાની મને ખૂબ મજા આવી. અને તેમના ભેદભાવ અંગેના વિચારો કેવા છે. તે જાણવાની ખૂબ મજા આવી." – શ્વેની પટેલ
"I will miss the most after going back from this camp is faculties because I will never get this much of freedom and friendliness from elders so I am going to miss it. I am going to miss faculty so much!" – Ricky Patel
"I learnt that when given Independence, children can do everything by themselves. I also learnt that freedom comes with responsibility. I understood real meaning of freedom. I also learnt how to be happy in each and every situation. We can handle people politely too." – Vedant Desai
"My most favorite session is 'All Rounder Engineers' because in house we have some small and big problem in carpentry, plumbing, electrical problem and we will apply these things at home." – Rohan Patel

"Dear Faculties, I wish to inform that I did not bring money in this camp and even Mann (friend) did not have money. But I am taking the book 'Swatantrata...'. Sorry. From - Aryan"
It has been a record that every time the Honesty Box is opened, amount of money found in the box is more than the books that are taken from the stock.

Reflections from Faculty for Dream India Camp....
"બાળકોને જે જવાબદારીપૂર્વક આ કૅમ્પમાં પાર્લામેન્ટ ચલાવતાં જોયાં, તેમને પોતાને લાગતા પ્રશ્નો ઉઠાવતાં જોયાં, ફક્ત પોતાને સંબંધિત પ્રશ્નો નહીં પણ વિશાળ જન સમુદાયને લાગતા વળગતા પ્રશ્નો - ભલે તે હેમંત દ્વારા વૈભવભાઈ સામે 'એકના ફોટા કાઢો ને બીજાના નહીં તો બીજાં બાળકોને અન્યાય થાય' એ પ્રશ્ન હોય, કે બિનિતભાઈ સામેનો ગોળનો પ્રશ્ન હોય, અને પોતાને ન્યાયી ન લાગે ત્યાં સુધી તેની પાછળ મથ્યા રહેવું, facultyને પણ કહેવાની હિંમત કરી કે તમે ભેદભાવ ન કરી શકો.... આ ખરેખર બહુ જ અદ્ભુત છે." - તૃપ્તિ નિસાર
"It is rare that one comes across a group of children who are so independent, free with their opinions and also taking responsibility. The concept of the parliament is really fantastic and I think that is the arena wherein the thin line between freedom and irresponsibility gets driven in. "શીખવવાની બહુ જ મઝા આવી. ત્યાંનું વાતાવરણ - ભાવાવરણ ખૂબ જ ગમ્યું. બાળકો સાથેના આદાન-પ્રદાનની પ્રક્રિયા ખૂબ જ ગમી. કારણ કે બાળકોને સ્વતંત્રતા મળતી હતી. પાર્લામેન્ટ થકી બાળકો ન્યાય માટે જાગૃત થાય તથા ન્યાયની પ્રક્રિયામાં સામેલ થાય - એની રીત સારી હતી. વિશેષતા- બાળકોની સ્વતંત્રતા, ડર વગર બોલી શકતાં હતાં." - અરુણ શાહ
"શિસ્ત અને ચોકસાઈ. કાળજી ખરેખર હૃદયસ્પર્શી. બાળકો સાથે ખૂબ જ આનંદ આવ્યો. બાળકોને શીખવવાની પ્રક્રિયામાં શીખવાનો મોકો મળ્યો. Parliament excellent - No word to speak. સવાલ જવાબમાં બાળકોની હાજર જવાબી. Freedom, equality. ત્યાંની સ્વચ્છતા. બધા મિત્રો સંપીને કામ કરતા હતા કોઈ પણ કામ સોંપતું નહોતું બધા જાતે કરતા હતા." - અશોક મેહતા
