Photo highlights of the SummerHill Camp organized specially for selected young leaders.

This Biannual Summerhill Camp during Diwali 2013 (from 11 to 18th Nov.) was special. Participants consisted of selected teenagers with leadership qualities who were chosen from around 10 Summerhill camps organised at Oasis Valleys over the last 2 years. The empowered and confident youngs took charge of the camp from Day 1 and proved their capacity as leaders, mesmerising all faculties& facilitators!! Be it ensuring the values & discipline, learning to enjoy together, creating bonds of friendship or challenging the fairness of adults or be it fighting for their rights responsibly or be it accepting their mistakes sportingly!! They deservingly received standing ovation from the adults!!

હું જિંદગીના પ્રશ્નોના ઉકેલ લાવતા શીખ્યો

આ સમરહિલ કૅમ્પમાંથી હું જિંદગીના પ્રશ્નોના ઉકેલ લાવતા શીખ્યો અને તેના કારણે હું ખૂબ ખુશ છું. કારણ કે મારા હિસાબે મારા જીવનનો જે સૌથી મોટો પ્રશ્ન હતો તે હું અહીંથી સૉલ્વ કરીને લઈને જઈ રહ્યો છું. અમે જો કદાચ આ સેશન ન રાખ્યો હોત તો આખા કૅમ્પમાં હું દુઃખી જ રહેત અને કંઈ પણ બોલી શક્યો ન હોત. હું આ શીખ્યો છું એ માત્ર મારા જ નહીં પણ બીજાના જીવનમાં મદદરૂપ થઈ રહે તેનું ધ્યાન રાખીશ.

હું સમયનું મહત્ત્વ શીખ્યો તેથી ખૂબ જ મજા આવી

આ કૅમ્પમાંથી મને એવું શીખવા મળ્યું કે આપણા જીવનમાં સમયનું ખૂબ જ મહત્ત્વ છે અને પાર્લામેન્ટના બધાના અનુભવો જાણવામાં તથા એક-એક પળ આપણા માટે કીમતી છે, તેથી તેનો સદુપયોગ કરવો જોઈએ એમ હું સમયનું મહત્ત્વ શીખ્યો, તેથી ખૂબ જ મજા આવી. અને મારા ક્રોધને શાંત કરી સારા મિત્ર બનવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો તેથી ખૂબ જ મજા આવી. સજા સાથે સમયનું મહત્ત્વ સમજાયું.

હું એ શીખ્યો છું કે પોતાની ભૂલનું પ્રાયશ્ચિત કેવી રીતે કરવું

હું આ સમર કૅમ્પમાંથી ઘણું બધું શીખ્યો છું પરંતુ સૌથી મહત્ત્વની વાત હું એ શીખ્યો કે પોતાની ભૂલનું પ્રાયશ્ચિત કેવી રીતે કરવું, ખરેખર સજા કોને કહેવાય, અને ખરેખર આપણા માટે શું સારું છે – ટૂંક સમયની મજા કે લાંબા સમયનો આનંદ.

જો અમને કોઈ વસ્તુમાં ખૂબ જ મજા આવી હોય તો તે છે Freedom જેના કારણે આપણને પોતાની જવાબદારીનું ભાન પણ થાય છે અને અમારો આત્મવિશ્વાસ પણ ખૂબ જ વધ્યો છે.

આ સમર કૅમ્પમાં મને Enjoy, Learn, Create અને Together દ્વારા ખૂબ જ નવા અનુભવો થયા, જીવનમાં આગળ વધવા મદદરૂપ થાય એવા આ ચાર શબ્દો હતા.

સૌથી વધુ ફ્રૅન્ડસ અને ફૅસિલિટેટરનો પ્રેમ માણ્યો

આખા સમરહિલ કૅમ્પ દરમ્યાન મેં સૌથી વધુ ફ્રૅન્ડસ અને ફૅસિલિટેટરનો પ્રેમ માણ્યો. કારણ કે બહારની દુનિયામાં માતાપિતા સિવાય સાચો પ્રેમ કરનાર બહુ ઓછા લોકો મળે છે, જ્યારે અહીં બધા એકબીજાને સાચો પ્રેમ કરે છે.

It is simply Awesome…!

I learnt to make new friends. I learnt this because I am a girl whose nature is very choosy. I generally don’t like to make friends because of some reasons. But this time I was happy by making new friends. I learnt how to adjust with other because this time most of us were new to each other. So I learnt to adjust with other people. I thank Summer Camp heartily for making improvements in me.

જો અમને સ્વતંત્રતા આપવામાં આવે તો અમે દેશ પણ ચલાવી શકીએ

આપણને મોટા માણસો અવારનવાર કહેતા હોય છે કે તમને સ્વતંત્રતા આપવામાં આવે તો પણ તમે કશું કરી શકતા નથી, પણ જો અમને સ્વતંત્રતા આપવામાં આવે તો અમે દેશ પણ ચલાવી શકીએ છીએ... અહીંથી પાછા ગયા પછી અમે સૌથી વધુ મિસ બધા શિક્ષકોને અને રસોઈ બનાવવાવાળાને કરીશું. આવા શિક્ષકો અમને ક્યાંય જોવા મળ્યા નથી.

Children's Parliament: The Most Exciting & The Most Liked Session

Given Freedom & Opportunity, Children Are Capable To Sort Out
Their Problems On Their Own And That Too, Creatively

The above photo-collage give glimpses of Children's Parliament run everyday evening during the camp.

Through Parliament, children learn to enjoy their freedom with highest of responsibilities; they learn the principles of Fairness & Justice, they learn to think from the perspectives of others, they become courageous & sensitive at the same time,.... and so on. Children's Parliament is the heart of Summerhill Camp. After 10 such camps at Oasis Valleys in past two years, children have again and again proven that, given a chance - opportunity, children can solve their own problem, creatively.

Parliament session was my most favorite session

Parliament session was my most favorite session from the whole camp because in our society, we never get this type of chance to complain on our adult and here at Oasis we are getting such chance. So I am very happy, that Oasis is doing such type of camps.

અદાલતથી અમે અમારી પ્રગતિ સાધી શકીએ છીએ

જે રીતે અમે પાર્લામેન્ટમાં અમારા મુદ્દા મૂકીને ચર્ચા કરતા હતા તે માટે બાળકોની અદાલત ખૂબ ખૂબ ખૂબ ખૂબ ગમી. સમાજમાં નાનાં બાળકોના પ્રશ્નો વડીલો સૉલ્વ કરે છે અને અમને નાનાં ગણે છે તો (બાળકોની) અદાલત દ્વારા એવું સાબિત કરી શકીએ છીએ કે અમે વડીલો જેટલા જ મહાન છીએ. હું એક વાત કહું તો અદાલત એ અમારો એ દાદર છે જેનાથી અમે અમારી પ્રગતિ સાધી શકીએ છીએ.

Star Assembly : Positive Affirmation Nurtures The Growth

At Oasis, We Believe That The Primary Role Of A Teacher Is
To Enjoy & Affirm Children

The above photo gives glimpses of morning Star-assembly.

As an important part of the camp, everyday morning, in the Star Assembly, children are given stars as recognition to their learning of the previous day. In more than dozen categories, the stars are given for their exemplary performance, new learning, displaying good character traits, taking up responsibilities, helping others and making new friends, taking initiatives for community benefit, ... and so on. Camp facilitators attempt to see that not a single positive act is gone unnoticed.

Daily Sessions: Platform Where Children Practice How Freely
& Joyfully They Learn

“જે રીતે હું આ બધા સેશનમાં શીખ્યો એ મને જિંદગીમાં ખૂબ કામ લાગશે
અને હું જે શીખ્યો છું એ જીવનમાં બીજાને પણ શીખવીશ”

Photo glimpses of daily sessions. More than 15 subjects were offered daily (more than 45 subjects in total) for children to choose and learn. Subjects were carefully selected to give some important learnings to children which they do not experience in their routine life.

Special guest sessions seen in above photo-collage. On the guest day, special classes were organized for children.

In Summerhill Camps, Teachers & Volunteers from various cities of Gujarat & India come specially to be with children, even for a single day.

In above photos, Tough Mountain Jogging and Toilet cleaning - test the mental toughness of children and prepare them.

Physical training is also an integral part of Oasis Summerhill Camps. Morning Exercises, Afternoon Duties (to keep their residence clean & arranged) and Evening Games check the physical being of children. Children enjoy all the three sessions and do their duties almost unsupervised.

Children’s Parliament was a very unique experience

Being part of the children’s Parliament was a very unique experience. The school runs under a true children’s government and I got to witness firsthand how and why the children are the bosses of themselves. I was amazed at their mature way of handling the most difficult complaints and a very democratic way of handling and finding solutions to all problems.

During the brief period that I spent at the camp I got so much unconditional love from all the children and also learnt a lot from them.

બધા સાથે રહી મારી ખુશીનો પાર નથી

ઓએસિસ પુષ્પો(બાળકો)થી ઘણું-ઘણું શીખવા મળ્યું છે અને આ પુષ્પોની મહેકથી મારું જીવન મહેકી ઊઠે એવી આજીવનની ચાહત છે. આમ તો દરેક બાળક પોતાની રીતે ખીલેલું હોય છે પણ સવિશેષ આ બાળકો અહીં ઓએસિસ વેલીઝમાં આવીને મુક્તપણે ખીલે છે, ખુલ્લા મને નદીની જેમ ખળખળ વહે છે, ભમરાની જેમ ગુંજન કરે છે, પંખીની જેમ કલરવ કરે છે.

બાળકો પાસેથી અવનવું શીખ્યા અને ખૂબ જ મજા આવી

આ સમરહિલ કૅમ્પ એ મારો પહેલો અનુભવ... બાળકો પાસેથી અવનવું શીખ્યા અને કાર્યકર તરીકે પણ ખૂબ જ મજા આવી છે... પાર્લામેન્ટમાં આવડી ઉંમરનાં બાળકો જે ફરિયાદ કે સૂચનો લઈને નિર્ણયો લેતાં હતાં તે જોવાની ખૂબ જ મજા આવી. આખા દિવસમાં સૌથી વધારે પાર્લામેન્ટની રાહ જોતા કે ક્યારે સમય થાય અને પાર્લામેન્ટ શરૂ થાય.

પ્રથમ અનુભવ, શીખતા-શીખવતા, આનંદદાયક અનુભવ

સ્વશાસન – બાળકો પોતાને મળેલ સ્વતંત્રતાનો કેવી રીતે ઉપયોગ કરે છે, તે દરેક બાબતનું નિરીક્ષણ કરી, નાનામાં નાની વાત પણ કેવી ધીરજથી સાંભળી ઉકેલે છે, really, it was great experience for me! જવાબદારી નક્કી કરવાની – ગ્રૂપના હિતમાં કર્મ કરવાનું અને બધીય બાબતને વળગી રહેવાની વાત મને ગમી. સૌથી મોટી વાત – હૃદયની વિશાળતા – પ્રાયશ્ચિત અને ભૂલનો એકરાર – સમૂહ સામે વચન આપવા અને નિભાવવા જેવી બાબતો દિલને સ્પર્શી ગઈ.

બાળકોમાં કેટલી અદ્ભુત શક્તિઓ છે તે તેમને જ્યારે મુક્ત રીતે બોલવાનો, વર્તવાનો માહોલ આપવામાં આવે ત્યારે જ જાણી શકાય છે એ સત્ય અહીં આવીને જાણવા મળ્યું.

મારો અનુભવ ખૂબ સારો અને સર્જનાત્મક રહ્યો

મારા માટે આ કૅમ્પમાં જાતે જ ઘણું બધું શીખવાનું હતું. જ્યારે આપણે કોઈને કશું શીખવવાનું હોય ત્યારે કઈ કઈ બાબતો કેટલી ધ્યાનમાં રાખવી તે મને સમજાયું. આ સમગ્ર કૅમ્પની વિશેષતા અને ખાસિયત દરેક પળે, દરેક ક્ષણે, દરેક ભૂલમાંથી, સજામાંથી, દરેક વ્યક્તિમાંથી આ લોકો જે શીખે છે અને વિકસે છે તે છે.

બાળકોની અદાલતની પ્રક્રિયા ગમી

બાળક પોતાની ભૂલને સમજી શકે અને જાહેરમાં પોતાની ભૂલનો સ્વીકાર કરતા શીખે. ભૂલનું પ્રાયશ્ચિત કરી તેમાંથી હળવા થઈ ફરી ઊભા થાય, જે મારા માટે કે બીજી કોઈ મોટી વ્યક્તિ માટે પણ અઘરું હોય છે તે તેમણે કર્યું.
