Diwali, a festival of 'lights'... internal light or external?
What has Diwali become for us today?
An occasion to buy new, shiny & expensive things, wearing new clothes, not just eating, but over-eating fried, sweet & unhealthy food, taking part in religious rituals without thinking why, and lastly, showcasing 'light' outside by bursting crackers and contributing in noise & air pollution...
In the name of Diwali we waste time, money, resources etc. intending to please people with the fear of what they will think or say. We become insensitive towards thousands of people who suffer and work day and night to fulfill our luxurious wants.
What is the real meaning of Diwali? Can Diwali be celebrated in any other way? Why do we call it festival of lights? Is it only about decorating lights & lamps outside?
Diwali spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. It is a time for cleaning the cobwebs of our heart, and lighting the lamp of awareness to enhance the goodness in us & help others.
Then, can we instead take the opportunity of Diwali to ask ourselves, are we evolving? Are we growing? What are we doing for others? Are we truly happy from within? Can material wants ever fulfil our deep desires to live meaningfully?
Every festival has its own deeper message, question is, can we acknowledge it?
How Oasis Fellows celebrated Diwali this year?
This year the MHEs army was out to search new upcoming leaders like them, who really aspire to do something great in life and are ready to create a difference.
All MHEs met different teens and youths in their known circles in search of new MHEs. At the same time they did something unique with their family too! Something noteworthy at their age.

"इस दिवाली मेरी सबसे अलग दिवाली गई, क्योंकि इस दिवाली मेने अपने परिवार के बिना मनाई वो भी बिना कोइ दुख के।पहेली बार मेने महेसूस किया की दिवालीके लिए अच्छे कपड़े नहीं बल्कि अच्छा दिल होना चाहिए।
ये दिवाली पे मुजपे एक ज़िम्मेदारी थी ओर जिंदगी मे पहेली बार मेने ना तो मिठाइया खाई हे न तो किसी को मेसेज किए हे! बहोत मन किया के इस दिवाली रुक जाऊ पर फिर सोचा के मेरे न होने से क्या लोग दिवाली मनाना छोड़ देंगे? लोगो को जो करना हे वो करे लेकिन मुझे अपने काम को दिल देकर पूरा करना हे ओर उस वक्त ये बात सोच पाने के लिए मेंने अपने आप को खुशनसीब महेसूस किया।"

"ઘરે ગઈ ત્યારે મારા માટે ઘરના લોકોએ નવા કપડાં, ફોન, અને આવી તો અનેક વસ્તુઓ તૈયાર રાખી હતી પરંતુ આ બધી વસ્તુઓ જોઈને એક વાર પણ મને એમાથી કંઈ લઈ લેવાનું મન ન થયું. તેની સામે તે બધીજ વસ્તુઓ પોતાના દમ પર પોતાના પૈસાથી લઈશ એવો આત્મવિશ્વાસ પણ મળ્યો. " ~ Divya 18 Years, Surat.
"દિવાળીના ઘણા અર્થ થાય છે તેમનો એક અર્થ છે અંધકારમાં જ્યોત પ્રગટાવવી. આ દિવાળી જીવનની સૌથી અલગ દિવાળી રહી છે આ વખતે મે ઘણી જ્યોતો પ્રગટાવી છે. જીવનમાં કઇંક મહાન કરી બતાવવાની, કોઈ દિવસ હિંમત ન હારવાની, શક્ય તેટલું સમાજ ને મદદરૂપ થવાની, ઉત્સાહ ઓછો ન થયો હોવાની અને જીવનને હંમેશા સુંદર રીતે માણવાની.
આવાતો અનેક કિસ્સાઓ અને અનુભવોથી મે મારા જીવનના કોડિયામાં હ્રદય ના રૂથી જીવન જીવવાના અભિગમના જલન પ્રવાહથી અનંત અગ્નિ જ્યોત પ્રગટાવી છે, અને હું આવી અનેક જ્યોતો પ્રગટાવવા ઈચ્છું છું.
આ સાથે સથે મેં જિંદગીમાં પહેલી વાર મમ્મી અને પપ્પા સાથે મેં હ્રદયથી સહાનુભૂતિ અનુભવી અને તેઓને પત્ર દ્વારા તેમજ રૂબરૂમાં કહી શક્યો કે, મમ્મી તું આટલા બધાનું જમવાનું કેવીરીતે બનાવે છે. મેં જાતે રસોઈ કરી ત્યારે મને સમજાયું, આજની રસોઈ હું બનાવીશ. પપ્પા હું જાતે કમાઈને મારી માટે અને આપની માટે નવી વસ્તુઓ અને કપડા આવતા વર્ષે લઈશ. પરંતુ મને સમજાયું કે તમે મને કેટલું આપ્યું છે. અને હવે મારી જવાબદારી બને છે. "

"This Diwali I got the chance to share the light I have gotten in my life through MHE with others. Rather than conventional celebration, I touched 1100+ lives with message of holistic independence. Instead of wasting time in pleasures, I actually took the time to build deep bonds with each of my family members. This Diwali gave me true joy from within!"

"This Diwali was uniquely celebrated without buying new clothes, gadgets or fire crackers! Instead, I celebrated with following ideals that I learned in MHE.
I lived every day ideally - like doing exercise, working, choosing healthy food etc. What I enjoyed the most was that I could celebrate Diwali by bringing out my inner light of uniqueness. Amongst all conformist pressures, I carried my light within to torch the spirit of independence and uniqueness in many other youths!"

"એક ગાડી જયારે ખરાબ થાય કે ખખડવા લાગે ત્યારે તેને ગેરેજમાં મોકલાવવામાં આવે છે અને તહેવારોમાં સ્ત્રીઓ અને યુવતીઓને વધુ સુંદર બનાવવાના બહાના હેઠળ આવીજ એક factory માં મોકલવામાં આવે છે જેને બ્યુટીપાર્લર કહેવામાં આવે છે. જેનો અનુભવ મને આ દિવાળી પર થયો. મને સમજાયું કે સુંદરતા તો હ્રદયની હોય છે શરીરની નહિ. તેથી જ પહેલીવાર મેં સ્વતંત્ર અને આત્મનિર્ભરતાથી નિર્યણ લીધો કે હું આ બધી બાહ્ય રીતે કરાયેલી કૃત્રિમ સુંદરતા નહિ કરી હું જેવી છું એવી જ સુંદર છું એવી પસંદગી નિડરતાથી લઈ શકી.
આજના જમાનામાં દીકરી ઘરની બહાર જવાની વાત પણ કરે ત્યારે મા-બાપ ની ચિંતા માંથી 100 પ્રશ્નો આવે કેમ જવું છે? ક્યાં જવું છે? વગેરે અને જાઓ તોપણ
કહેવાતા મોટા લોકો લેવા-મૂકવા આવે ત્યારે એકલા સાહસ કરીને ઘરેથી એક પણ રૂપિયો લીધા વગર હિંમત પૂર્વક મુસાફરી કરવાનો જે અનુભવ રહ્યો તે ખૂબ સરસ હતો.

"This Diwali was very unique for me, unlike any other Diwali I have celebrated till date! No make-up, no new dress, no rangoli, no fire crackers. My whole family and my neighbors were fully dressed in new clothes where as I was in a simple Kurti and Jeans, a watch in hands and half clutch in my hair. What I am most proud about is that I didn't shy away, instead clicked pictures too, without any shame or hesitation of wearing old clothes or not dressing up. I couldn't believe this was me! I, who was once crazy about festivals especially Diwali, looking for new clothes one month in advance and now such a big change!
I truly felt proud of myself. My purpose and being had changed. I wanted to spread light in everyone’s heart and I wanted to give an opportunity to many youths like me who are waiting for a platform like MHE, like I was.
My biggest highlight was when I went for MHE orientation of 15-20 youth boys. First, they were passing comments on me but when I started my orientation they were listing silently. I felt proud even though I wasn't as tall or big like them physically, I could make them shut their mouth by my actions and body language. This is true courage!"

"દિવાળીમાં ઘરે જઈને આ વખતે નવી જ રીતે ઉજવવાનો મોકો મળ્યો જેમાં MHE અને OASIS થકી મારા જીવનમાં જે ઉજાસ ફેલાયો છે તેવો બીજા લોકોના જીવનમાં પણ ફેલાય તેના માટે કામ કરવાનું હતું. આમાં હું કેટલો સફળ થયો તે ખબર નથી પરંતુ મારા જીવનમાં અનેક લોકો સામે કોઈ સાચી વાત ને લઈને રજૂઆત કરવાનો જે આત્મવિશ્વાસ બંધાયો છે તેનો મને ખૂબ આનંદ છે. "

"આ દિવાળી મારા માટે ખૂબ આનંદદાયી રહી. અત્યાર સુધી મે માત્ર ને માત્ર ફટાકડાઓ ફોડીને સમય જ વેડફ્યા કર્યો હતો પરંતુ આ વખતે મારા જેવા બીજા યુવાનોના જીવનમાં કઇંક નવું ઉમેરાય તે માટેનો પ્રયાસ કર્યા છે."

"દિવાળી પર ઘરે જતી વખતે પોતે લીધેલ ગોલ પૂરો કરવો મને લગભગ અસંભવ લાગતો હતો પરંતુ પોતે કરેલ પ્લાનિંગ અનુસાર કામ કરતાં અંતે હું તેને મેળવી ૫૦૦થી વધુ યુવાનો તેમજ કિશોરો સુધી માત્ર ૩ દિવસમાં પોહંચી શક્યો. આ કર્યા બાદ મને અંદરથી પોતાના પર ઘણો પ્રાઉડ ફિલ થયો ઘરના લોકોએ પણ મારી અંદર કઇંક બદલાવ જોયો અને તેઓ આનાથી ખૂબ ખુશ થયા."
