Dr. Bhagwati Oza : The Youngest Master-of-All-Adventure & Sports!
Dr. Bhagwati Oza,was born in Morbi, Gujarat in an educated and Gandhi-vadi family.
Right from her childhood, she had seen the plight of patients of cholera and typhoid. She thought it to be her obligation to serve people by pursuing the medical profession.
'Healthy Women - Healthy Nation' is her Motto. She joined government women’s hospital in 1960 after completing her study from LLP medical college of Morbi.
Dr. Bhagwati Oza joined mountaineering training at the age of 40, when most of the mountaineers take retirement. She was trained under Tenzing Norgay(the First to Summit Mt. Everest).
She is the President of District Senior Citizens Athletic Association and Secretary of Gujarat Senior Citizens Athletic Association.
Glimpses of Achievements & Awards:
Dr. Bhagwati Oza is the Brand Ambassador of Vadodara Marathon. She has received a National Award for Older Persons in Sports and Adventure category in 2016 by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India.This award is considered to be equivalent to the Padmashree Award.
Awarded lifetime achievement award in 2017 and Sir Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Award in 2018.
Won more than 100 gold medals and trophies by participating in various sports activities.
She has done 9 expeditions so far as a doctor and as a mountaineer.
At the age of 50 She joined Gujarat Flying Club and got the Private Pilot License with R. T. Rating in Piper, Pushpak & Cessna Aircrafts and registered nearly 150 hours of flying.
At the age of 65, she started participating in competitive sports such as Running, Swimming and Long distance Cycling.
She cycled for over 3,000 km from Kolkata to Kanyakumari at the age of 75 and also is the oldest woman in the country to have done scuba diving and have climbed high mountain peaks.
Today, at the age of 85 years, she runs or cycles 5 KM every single day.
Her name has also featured in the Limca Book of World Recordsfor Social Service Activities and Adventure Sports Activities.
Bhagwati Oza, an athlete from Gujarat (India), was invited as a special guest in Dream India Camp of Oasis. She gives encouraging message to them and tells the importance of discipline in life as it is the mission of her life.
Contribution Towards Society & Environment
Dr. Bhagwati Oza has done many cycling expeditions and peace marches for various social causes. She has paddled all over the country on her bicycle for various issues related to women, environment and peace.
In 2001, she worked with Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir under Kargil WarSadbhavna Mission.
In the same year, she decided to live an environment-friendly life and sold her car and two-wheeler for conservation of environment.
As a motivational speaker, she guides young students to join defense forces. She also gives pre-military training to tribal girls.
Oasis is happy to announce dialogues this year with women who are role models for current and future generations.
The purpose is education of freedom & strength to girls and to inspire girls as community leaders.
Between January to March, 3 Saamarthya Life Camps were conducted in the schools of Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. Total 74 girls participated in these camps.
